Abstract:
The leading U.S. Catholic prelate warned earlier this month that President-elect Barack Obama's promise to unify the country would be shattered if he pursues policies to increase access to abortion....
The Roman Catholic Church in it's arrogance have no right to warn President Elect Obama about anything, 52% of Catholics voted for him and his policies. The Roman Catholic Churche's recent international surge in political interfering has not gone unnoticed and continues to make this crystilised dinosaur more and more unpopular.
52% of Catholics may have vted for President -elect Obama (not so of actual church-going Catholics by the way; an important distinction), but voting for and idividual DOES NOT equate with voting for ALL his policies so that addendum of Nicodemus' is simply inaccurate. Obama, who was elected according to exit polls almost entirely on economic issues, SHOULD be warned against thinking he has the electorate's backing for ALL his positions.
The Catholic Church has a right and responsibility
to engage in the public square when matters of faith
and morals are threatened. The Bishops have the
responsibility to protect the right to life of all
human beings from the womb to the tomb and to
protect Traditional Marriage.
I am astounded that Tom has taken it upon himself to decide who he thinks constitutes a "real catholic" this is typical of of the mindset of of people who insist on imposing their narrow ideologies on others.Barack Obama won fair and square, deal with it.Perhaps we should issue our own warning here ( seeing as though their grace's have taken it upon themselves to do so ) Any denomination that tries to force their beliefs on others are in for a serious fight.
Nicodemus, be careful about what you wish for. The bishops are obligated to speak out about life and death issues, this also means your life. 1) Read the U.S. Constitution and see what it says about life. 2)It is a scientific fact that life begins at conception, this is a revelation arrived at by modern science and technology.
Yes Obama won, the issue he won on was primarily the economy and the overall mismanagement the govt. war etc..
3) There is another issue that you might not be aware of and that is if Obama were to do as he said he would do, sign the FOCA bill forcing all medical personal into the position of not having any conscience protections do you really believe that Catholic hospitals would continue to operate. I think not. I would bet you that all Catholic hospitals would be shut down, not sold, think of this having structures such as hospitals shut down and empty providing no medical services at all.
Nicodemus
