Some facts are not accurate should have done fact check before releasing. Major error, Councilman Thomas Jr. is Councilmember for Ward 5 and the neighborhood is Brookland. Councilmember Kwame Brown was the first approached by Christine Brooks-Cropper in December 2006 and it was he that said to discuss with Councilmember Marion Barry and Harry Thomas Jr in 2007. It was the three CM's Brown, Barry and Thomas Jr. that introduced the Bill, April 3, 2007 and the Bill become law, April 15, 2008. Know all the details because Christine Brooks-Cropper of GWFCC and founder of DC Fashion Council spearheaded the advocacy efforts of Bill No. 17-173 becoming Law.

Thank you but please correct the Councilmember's Ward and neighborhood.

This article is very confusing, I'm not sure what the "take home" is.

Just an FYI...
February 22nd is the enactment date. That means that it went from council to the mayor for his review & signature.
The bill was signed by Mayor Fenty on March 4th and sent to the hill for congressional review to become law. Effective date from that congressional review process was April 15th,2008.

The law number is 17-0148. I think a retraction should be done on this article, too many inaccuracies.

The best person for a fact check would be Christine Brooks-Cropper as she's spearheading this entire project. Maybe you'd like to consider running the article by her before releasing.

The facts you listed do not match the facts received from Ms. Brooks-Cropper. District Chronicles updated the article online with the facts received from Ms. Brooks-Cropper.
