Department of Liquor Control alcohol inspectors win community award for underage drinking prevention

On April 27, 2016

Two Alcohol Inspectors, Guy Poirier and Tim Zywiolek, were honored last week with the Keeping It Safe Community Service Award for their contribution in deterring under 21 alcohol use and reducing adolescent access to alcohol, according to the Montgomery County Department of Liquor Control.

The Montgomery County Coalition, Keeping It Safe (KIS) reminds the community that “Under 21 alcohol use is illegal, unhealthy and unacceptable.” Established in 1992, a group of concerned public and private agencies and residents collaborated to with the goal prevent underage drinking and reduce alcohol access through education, enforcement support and youth involved programs.

Inspector Poirier and Zywiolek were awarded for their contribution in the coalition’s We Check ID’s Poster Project, a collaboration with Richard Montgomery High School Students that worked to design preventative point of sale materials for display at Montgomery County Department of Liquor Control retail stores and participating licensed businesses licensed to sell or serve alcohol.

“We are really proud of the work Inspector Poirier and Zywiolek do. They are well known for their proactive approach to solving community issues and mediation between businesses and surrounding neighborhoods. We applaud their efforts and support their leadership role in the community,” said Kathie Durbin, Division Chief of Licensure, Regulation and Education.
