On September 18, 2016

The DC Higher Education Licensure Commission has granted permission to Amala Lives Institute to prepare young adults for hospitality and culinary arts careers. The community is invited to attend a walk through Monday, October 3. The Amala Lives Institute is now enrolling; classes begin Oct. 11.

“It is our vision to become the leading training provider of culinary arts and hospitality in the District of Columbia.," said Brandi Forte, founder of the Amala Lives Institute. "We want to ensure that D.C. residents are empowered when it comes to their career, their ability to shine and provide for themselves and their families.”

Housed on the third floor inside of the Perry School at 1800 Perry Street, NE, in Michigan Park, the Amala Lives Institute will serve students 18 and older living in the Metropolitan Area. It will feature a host of classes, hands-on training and networking resources connect students local and regional career opportunities. The curriculum offers 432 credits/hours for a nine-month fundamentals program.

Of the 53 non-degree, post-secondary institutions licensed in the District, 12 are minority, woman-owned. Forte is proud to be in this group and says setting up the site in northeast D.C. is just the beginning.

"I plan to open vocational schools throughout the country,” said Forte, a Howard University graduate and author. “For those of us in leadership roles, we must work to empower others. I’m positive that Amala Lives Institute will do just that here in D.C. and beyond.”

The institute offers elementary school after care programs, including arts and tutoring.
