Metro Brief: Montgomery College and Accenture team up to prepare students for the future

Montgomery County

On September 20, 2011

Montgomery College is partnering with Accenture, a global management consulting, technology services and outsourcing company based in Northern Virginia, to offer students a program entitled "Skills to Succeed." The program aims to help students gain the knowledge and experience that will help them compete in the workforce. Skills to Succeed begins this fall and will feature Accenture executives as guest speakers and facilitators in a classroom setting to educate students on the opportunities available to them, as well as to build basic professional skills. The speakers will also demonstrate how their diverse personal and professional backgrounds helped them achieve their goals in life.

The Skills to Succeed program will provide an opportunity for students to participate in the following:

  • A four-part interactive lecture series entitled "So You Want to Be A CEO... Skills to Succeed";
  • Accenture's office-wide meeting program and day of service in downtown D.C.;
  • A capstone visit to Accenture offices in Reston, Virginia, for a final session and tour;
  • Job Start 101 (http://www.jobstart101.org) computer-based module, which offers smart tips and real-world training for college students

Working together with Accenture, Montgomery College faculty, staff and administrators worked to develop and coordinate the program for fall 2011. The College anticipates an expansion of this program for spring 2012.

The effort is part of Accenture's Skills to Succeed initiative, which plans to equip 250,000 people around the world by 2015 with the skills to get a job or build a business. Accenture's Skills to Succeed initiative is supported by Bill Green, Accenture chairman and community college graduate.

The program kickoff, featuring the first lecture, is scheduled for Friday, September 16, 2011, at the Germantown Campus.
