Howard University, Bison Express Invite Washington to View Traveling African-American History Museum

WASHINGTON (Aug 1) -- Howard University President, Dr. Sidney A. Ribeau, in collaboration with the Bison Express, invites the Washington-area community to view American Legacy Magazine's "Know Your History" Mobile celebrating African-American culture Thursday, Aug. 4, and Friday, Aug. 5.

The event, a traveling museum of artifacts and memorabilia from slavery to the Civil Rights Movement to the present, will be on display from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday in the Howard University parking lot across from the university's bookstore at 2225 Georgia Ave. N.W.

Admission is free, and the event is wheelchair accessible.

An 18-wheel trailer has been transformed by Michigan-based MRA Experiential Tours & Equipment into a black history museum that will take visitors on a historical journey through the pages of American Legacy Magazine.

The exhibit is filled with filled with photos, stories and interactive learning stations celebrating African-American history. The "Know Your History" Mobile Museum includes American Legacy's Cover Exhibit, "Always In Our Sight: The Fight For Civil Rights," features artifacts and memorabilia from slavery to civil rights, courtesy of the Gene Alexander Peters Collection. It also includes a Black History in Aviation Exhibit, a Buffalo Soldiers Exhibit and American Legacy's Black History Trivia Wheel.

"This is another giant step in the history of American Legacy Magazine, where we move closer to the mission of teaching our history and helping to restore pride and self-esteem to those in and outside of our community," said Rodney Reynolds, founder, publisher & CEO of American Legacy Magazine.

American Legacy is distributed nationwide to over 2.25 million readers through black churches, educational and cultural institutions and is available on newsstands and through paid subscriptions.
