Georgetown's bench plays big in 71-61 win over St. John's

On Sunday, February 12 Georgetown freshman forward Greg Whittington scored a career-high 12 points coming off the bench to lead the Hoyas to a 71-61 victory over St. John's. Georgetown's bench outscored St. John's reserves 23-2.

Freshman forward Otto Porter pitched in 11 points and 8 rebounds.

Freshman guards Moe Harkless and D'Angelo Harrison played nearly 40 minutes and carried the Red Storm's offense. Harkless finished with 20 points and 6 rebounds and Harrison scored a game-high 24 points including 5-of-12 from downtown.

Georgetown outrebounded St. John's 33-26, grabbing 11 offensive boards along the way. The Hoyas shot 49-percent from the floor and 66.7 percent from the charity stripe.

Georgetown never trailed in the game, and took a 31-25 lead into the locker room at halftime.

When the Red Storm cut the lead to three (56-53) with less than 5 minutes to go, Georgetown senior guard Jason Clark took over scoring 7 points in the final minutes of the game to seal the victory.
