Brandon McDonald put United on the board first with a header off of a deep Branko Boskovic free kick early in the first half (15'). Dejan Jakovic showed quick feet on a loose ball tapping in a deflection in stoppage time just before the break to give United a 2-0 lead.
New England came alive in the second scoring back-to-back goals (48', 50') against a flat-footed United defense. Saer Sene beat Bill Hamid with a shot to the lower corner then AJ Soares used his head to find the far side of the net to tie the match at 2-2.
Super sub Maicon Santos broke the tie on a spectacular play. The Brazilian danced around two New England defenders and hit Dwayne De Rosario streaking down the left side of the field. De Rosario bounced it back in to Santos with plenty of room to score his seventh goal of the season (61').
With the win, United moves into first place in the Eastern Conference. Freddie Allen/DMVAS/DC
