Howard University's defense pitched a shutout and Terrance Leffall rushed for 131 yards in the team's 10-7 victory over their archrival Hampton University. The win marks the first time the Bison have beaten the Pirates since 1996.

Howard's swarming defense held the Pirates to just 16 yards on the ground and 106 yards through the air.

"Our defensive strategy was to stop them," said Howard ROLB no. 13 Keith Pough. "If they can't score they can't win."

Late in the third, Bison QB Greg McGhee fumbled the football and Charles Owens recovered it in the end zone for Hampton's only score of the game.

Howard's defense ended Hampton's chances of a comeback when Lanny Kelly intercepted a loose Bradford Hudson pass with less than three minutes to play.

Howard will finish their regular season on the road, November 19 against Delaware State.
