Mystics' late rally falls short, Chicago wins 84-77

On June 19, 2011

On Saturday, June 11, the visiting Chicago Sky jumped out to an early lead against the Washington Mystics and never looked back, holding off a second half comeback to take a 84-77 victory.

Chicago shot 60 percent from the floor, and 9 for 16 from downtown. Sky F No. 24 Sylvia Fowles scored 23 points and G No. 10 Epiphanny Prince finished with 20 points and 5 assists.

Matee Ajavon started and led all scorers with 24, but turned the ball over six times in nearly 36 minutes of play. Mystics G Kelly Miller pitched in 15, and F Crystal Langhorne added 14 points and 5 rebounds to the scoreboard. After falling behind 18 in the first half, Washington battled back and outscored Chicago 44-33 in the second half.

The Mystics pulled within three late in the fourth quarter on a Marissa Coleman jumper, but Chicago stalled Washington's comeback and finished the game going 6-for-8 at the charity stripe.

On Saturday, June 18, the Mystics travel to Tulsa to face Elizabeth Cambage and a struggling Shock (0-5) squad. The Mystics return to the Verizon Center on Tuesday, June 21 to take on Tamika Catchings and the Indiana Fever. For more information on the Washington Mystics, visit
