Wizards finally break through with win over Toronto

On January 21, 2012

On Tuesday, January 10, Washington ended an eight-game losing streak, the worst season start in franchise history, by defeating the Toronto Raptors 98-73.

When the Raptors closed the first quarter with a 20-17 lead, Wizards fans let the home team hear their displeasure with a loud chorus of boos. The Wizards used a strong 2nd quarter to take a commanding 46-34 lead going into halftime.

Early in the fourth, Washington led by as many as 27 points.

John Wall struggled from the floor on a 25-percent shooting night, but dished 9 assists. Rashard Lewis and Nick Young each finished with 15 points.

"We had a good solid performance from a lot of players," said Wizards head coach Flip Saunders. "The thing I liked more than anything else was the amount of players that we played. We played as a team."

The Wizards take on the 76ers in back-to-back games starting Friday, January 13 in Philadelphia. The teams will play at the Verizon Center on Saturday, January 14. Freddie Allen/DMVAS/DC
