Mystics avoid blowout, still lose to Liberty, 76-70

On June 18, 2012

The New York Liberty smacked the struggling Mystics in the mouth with a 35-13 first quarter on their way to 76-70 victory on Friday, June 8.
The Liberty led start to finish and survived a late fourth quarter comeback attempt by the Mystics. New York shot 60 percent from the field and 83 percent from downtown in the first half and outscored the Mystics (34-26) in the paint.
Cappie Pondexter led New York with 25 points. Crystal Langhorne scored 24 points and pulled down 6 rebounds for Washington. Mystics center Michelle Snow pitched in 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Mystics head coach Trudi Lacey said that her team didn't show up ready to play, calling the total lack of effort "unacceptable and inexcusable."
``What I'm going to do is find the five people that want to play together, that want to play defense and want to play the entire game,'' Lacey said.
