Georgetown outlasts Rutgers for 52-50 victory

On January 29, 2012

On Saturday, January 21, Georgetown survived shooting 13-percent from the floor in the first half and a 4-point afternoon from star forward Hollis Thompson to escape the Verizon Center with a 52-50 win over Rutgers.

"Sometimes you're having a bad offensive day and it's because the other team is disrupting you and you can't get into a flow,"said Georgetown head coach John Thompson, III. "I think this was the second time this year where there was just a lid on the basket."

Free throws played a key factor in the game. Rutgers' aggressive style of play put the Hoyas in the bonus early in both halfs. Georgetown converted on 25-of-36 attempts from the charity stripe. The Scarlet Knights took 7 the whole afternoon and made 4.

Georgetown freshman forward Otto Porter scored the team's last 6 points, including two big free throws with less than 9 seconds to play in regulation to put the Hoyas ahead for good. Freddie Allen/DMVAS/District Chronicles
