‘Mayor for Life’ book nominated for NAACP Image Award

( – The autobiography of Marion Barry, a New York Times Bestseller, has been nominated for an NAACP Image Award, the annual awards celebrating contributions by African Americans.

The 46th annual event takes place Friday, February 6, and will air live on TV One. Barry’s book nomination falls under the category, “Outstanding Literary Work – Biography/Autobiography.”

Released on June 18, 2014, the book fulfills the dream of Barry to make the New York Times Bestseller List. He died on November 23, while still serving as a member of the D.C. City Council.

Now listed on the “Bestseller List,”  “Mayor for Life: The Incredible Story of Marion Barry, Jr.,” can be found under the category: “Race and Civil Rights”.

Barry traveled throughout country and the D.C. Metropolitan area, making appearances and promoting his book at numerous book signings and events, including the 50th anniversary of the Washington Informer newspaper.

“Mayor for Life” chronicles Barry’s 52+ year journey as a public servant and civil rights activist.
