On Sunday August 9, as the sun scorched players and fans without mercy, the DC United hosted a historic, international friendly against Real Madrid at FedEx Field in Largo, Md.
On the steady goalkeeping of Josh Wicks, United started the 2nd half even with Real Madrid arguably one of the best squads in the world. Wicks finished with 6 saves.
Real Madrid flipped the switch in the 57th, scoring 3 goals in quick succession to break the match. Real Madrid's Gonzalo Hinguain scored a double and Arjen Robben assisted and scored during a 12-minute stretch.
Even though the United only managed 2 shots on goal the entire afternoon, the 72,368 screaming soccer afficianados barely noticed as they feasted on the world-class match.
United's next home match is August 22 against the Los Angeles Galaxy at RFK Stadium. For more information about the DC United, visit www.dcunited.com.
